Econ Prof. Target of Recent Cyber Disruptions

The New York Times reported that the recent internet disruptions of Twitter, Facebook and the like were mainly the result of a "cyber attack" aimed at an economics professor from the Republic of Georgia in what was the old Soviet Union.

The economics professor was to be posting on the events that lead up to the conflict between Russia and Georgia was attacked by thousands of computers in essence requesting service at sites like Facebook and the web servers being overwhelmed and unable to meet these huge number of requests.
