Generic Drug Makers See Down 2013

As the New Year is upon us, many take time to reflect on the old and make resolutions for the new.  For generic drug firms, 2012 was a very good year, but 2013 will not be, since the number of patented pharmaceutical drugs whose patents expire declines significantly in 2013 compared to 2012.  Additionally, the number of six exclusive windows for generic drug makers first to market will also be smaller as the exclusively will not be so exclusive on some drugs.  While the new year is not so great for generic drug makers (and brand name drug makers losing patent protection), it certainly is great for consumers of those drugs that went off patent this year and the patented drugs that go off patent next year.
